Multi-disciplinary collaborative diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal colorectal tumors (MDT)--the best diagnosis and treatment model for malignant tumors
In order to integrate medical resources, improve service effectiveness, and strengthen the "patient-centered, disease-based" multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment model, Yantai Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine established a multidisciplinary collaborative diagnosis and treatment team (MDT) for gastrointestinal colorectal tumors.The Collaborative diagnosis and Treatment Team (MDT) of the Department of Gastrointestinal Colorectal Oncology was established under the strong support and guidance of the hospital's leaders, with general surgery as the lead department, and related departments such as oncology, spleen and gastrointestinal Diseases, Radiology, Pathology, and endoscopy.
On the afternoon of July 26, 2023, the first multi-disciplinary collaborative diagnosis and treatment promotion meeting for gastrointestinal colorectal tumors was held. The meeting was chaired by Dai Lingling, deputy chief physician of the four oncology departments, Sha Yansong, attending physician of the Imaging Department, and Sun Chenkun, deputy chief physician of General Surgery, to share their professional knowledge.Dai Lingling, deputy chief physician of the four departments of Oncology, shared the relevant knowledge of the most cutting-edge chemotherapy, immunization, and targeted treatments for gastrointestinal colorectal tumors.The attending physician of the Department of Imaging, Sha Yansong, showed us the method of imaging diagnosis of gastric and colorectal malignancies, and introduced the importance of low-tension enhanced CT scans of the stomach and colon for the diagnosis of gastric and colorectal tumors.The deputy Chief Physician of surgery Sun Chenkun demonstrated in detail the “right semicolonectomy based on the concept of membrane anatomy” through the surgical video, so that everyone has a more intuitive understanding of the current technical level of laparoscopic surgery in general surgery.The sharing of the above three experts was well received by the experts and colleagues present.During the meeting, a specific plan for the future development of MDT work was also formulated. Vice President Han Feng highly commented and encouraged this meeting. He hoped that various specialties would take MDT as an opportunity to unite internal medicine, surgery, and medical technology departments and combine multiple treatment methods to form a closed-loop management model for the whole process of diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal colorectal tumors to better serve patients and increase the influence of the hospital's business level.

The establishment of the multi-disciplinary collaborative group for gastrointestinal colorectal tumors in our hospital marks the transformation of the medical diagnosis and treatment model of gastrointestinal colorectal tumor treatment from the traditional single-discipline diagnosis and treatment to multi-disciplinary collaboration. The selection of reasonable treatment methods and the adoption of standardized technologies based on the individualization of patients will fully demonstrate the advantages of the MDT model for gastrointestinal colorectal tumors, so that more patients with gastrointestinal tumors can benefit.
What is the multi-disciplinary collaborative diagnosis and treatment team model of oncology (MDT)?
Multi-disciplinary collaborative diagnosis and treatment team model (MDT for short): It is a relatively fixed expert group composed of experts from multiple related disciplines to conduct “one-stop” clinical seminars on diseases, so as to propose the best treatment plan suitable for patients, and then the relevant disciplines individually or jointly implement the jointly formulated treatment plan.
Features/advantages of MDT
The MDT team can combine the different treatment goals of the patient based on the biological characteristics of the tumor, the resectionability of the lesion, the basic state of the patient, complications, and the relationship between the primary and metastatic foci, to maximize the avoidance of patients traveling to and from different departments, different experts give “one word for each other”, “lose one another” diagnosis and treatment opinions, after giving the patient the most reasonable examination and the most appropriate treatment plan, so that the patient can achieve the best clinical and survival benefits, a higher quality of life, and at the same time, it can shorten the waiting time for treatment, save costs, and avoid the burden of irregular treatment on the patient's family. .

MDT mode for gastrointestinal colorectal tumors
Once patients with gastrointestinal colorectal tumors enter the MDT diagnosis and treatment mode,they are faced with a diagnosis and treatment team composed of experts from various departments,including experts from general surgery,oncology,spleen and gastrointestinal diseases,radiology,pathology,endoscopy and other departments that may be involved in their diseases.MDT team members can give full play to their professional advantages and jointly formulate more scientific,reasonable and standardized treatment plans.
What are the indications for patients with gastrointestinal colorectal tumors who need MDT?
1.Tumors of the gastroesophageal junction;
2.Early gastric cancer;
3.Advanced gastric cancer(locally advanced,accompanied by lymph node fusion and metastasis,liver metastasis,lung metastasis,peritoneal metastasis,etc.);
4.Early colorectal cancer;
5.Low-level progressive colorectal cancer(involving the retention of anorectal function);
6.Advanced colorectal cancer(locally advanced,accompanied by lymph node fusion and metastasis,liver metastasis,lung metastasis,peritoneal metastasis,etc.);
7.Residual gastric cancer,recurrence and metastasis of gastric colorectal tumors after surgery,and related complications caused by tumor treatment;
8.Gastrointestinal stromal tumors;
9.Complex abdominal tumors and retroperitoneal tumors.
How do patients apply for MDT?
1.For hospitalized patients,please contact the doctor in charge of this group.After the doctor in charge applies,contact Dr.Xu Dawei of General Surgery.;
2.Outpatients
Due to the limited time and quota of each tumor MDT,patients who need to participate in MDT must make an appointment in advance.Outpatients should pay attention to preparing the case information in advance to facilitate the evaluation of the expert team and formulate a diagnosis and treatment plan suitable for the patient.
