Facial paralysis is a symptom of the corner of the mouth tilted to one side and incomplete eyelid closure as the main symptoms. It is caused by emptiness of the veins, external wind and evil spirits, blocked menstrual qi,facial muscles and veins, loss of nourishment, and muscle slowness. It is equivalent to peripheral facial nerve paralysis in modern medicine, most commonly in Bell's palsy. The inducing factors can be cold, overwork, viruses and autonomic nervous dysfunction, which cause vasospasm of local nutrient nerves, leading to facial nerve ischemia and edema. The main clinical manifestations are:relaxation, coldness, numbness of the muscles on the side of the patient's body, inability to close the eyelids, tears, brushing teeth and mouthwash leakage, food congestion,or accompanied by pain behind the ear, loss of taste, tinnitus or auditory allergies.
Facial paralysis is a characteristic disease of our department.According to the specific circumstances of the patient, comprehensive treatment such as acupuncture, oral Chinese medicine, tuina, moxibustion, and cupping is used. The effect is remarkable.Early treatment after the onset of the disease, the total efficiency can reach 100%.In view of the successful experience and reliable efficacy of our department in the treatment of facial paralysis, the hospital set up the first batch of specialized outpatient clinics in 2012.One of them is the“Facial paralysis outpatient Clinic”of our department. Now the treatment of facial paralysis is more standardized and efficient.
Precautions:Acupuncture and moxibustion should be used in the early stages of facial paralysis to control the development of the disease, shorten the course of the disease, and reduce the occurrence of sequelae and complications.Patients with facial paralysis should pay attention to washing their faces with warm water, wearing masks when going out, avoiding cold wind irritation, paying attention to weather changes, and adding clothing in time to prevent colds and repeated illnesses.
