On the afternoon of August 25th, on the connecting corridor between the east and west campuses of Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, an urgent rescue operation against time suddenly began.
One of our nurses was passing by here after work when she suddenly experienced symptoms of chest tightness and shortness of breath. Within just a few minutes, she lost consciousness and lay limply against the railing of the corridor. The accompanying personnel saw this and immediately called Qi Xiao, the deputy director of the Pulmonary Disease Department who had just finished seeing patients at the outpatient clinic, to come for treatment. They also called the emergency station of the hospital's emergency department.
Doctor Qi Xiao quickly arrived at the scene. After examination, it was found that the patient was in a state of confusion, with cyanosis of the lips and low breath sounds in both lungs. The symptoms of hypoxia were obvious, and the situation was critical!
While waiting for the emergency responders, the resident trainees Zhou Yilong and Wang Shanshan passing through the corridor heard the commotion. Both were concurrent graduate students of the standardized training program for traditional Chinese medicine physicians at our hospital. During their daily clinical studies, they had accumulated a solid foundation in emergency response. Seeing the gathered crowd and Qie Xiao, the doctor who was squatting on the ground providing assistance, the two sped over, "Teacher, let us help!" They said in unison, their eyes filled with urgency and determination.
In order to transfer the patient to the emergency treatment room as soon as possible for further treatment, the trainee doctors took on the key task: Wang Shanshan, upon receiving the doctor Qi Xiao's instruction to "fetch the stethoscope and pulse oximeter", immediately rushed to the examination room to retrieve the equipment, helping the doctor quickly make the diagnosis of "both lungs have moist rales and the pulse oximeter reading is 97%"; Zhou Yilong quickly borrowed a wheelchair, and then the three of them rushed towards the emergency treatment room direction together. At this time, the emergency department medical team had also arrived with emergency supplies, and everyone worked together to transfer the patient to the emergency treatment room. The emergency department doctors immediately seamlessly continued the treatment with intravenous infusion, and fully protected the patient's life safety. Currently, due to the timely rescue, the patient's condition has gradually improved.
In this emergency rescue operation, the resident trainees Zhou Yilong and Wang Shanshan demonstrated excellent professional qualities. They took the initiative to step forward at critical moments and executed efficiently, converting the medical knowledge they had learned into practical rescue capabilities. They participated in the entire process of assisting in rescue and transportation, demonstrating the responsibility of young physicians and more directly reflecting the solid effectiveness of our hospital's standardized training system for traditional Chinese medicine physicians.
