Doctors and patients working together to safeguard the source of life - The Hematology Department of Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital successfully held a patient education exchange meeting
On the afternoon of August 26th, the Hematology Department of Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital successfully held a patient education exchange meeting with the theme of "Synchronized Medical and Patient Efforts, Guarding the Source of Life" at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Prevention and Health Care Service Center. This event aimed to enhance the scientific understanding of the disease among patients with hematological disorders and their families, improve their self-health management capabilities, promote communication between doctors and patients, and incorporate humanistic care to help patients build confidence in overcoming the disease. The event attracted many inpatients and patients in the rehabilitation period, as well as their families to participate actively. The atmosphere on the spot was warm and lively.

The event began. Director Li Yuliang of the Hematology Department emphasized the significance of this health education activity. She said, "Overcoming the disease requires close collaboration between doctors and patients. The patient education group is precisely the bridge that facilitates efficient communication between doctors and patients. By disseminating scientific and standardized disease knowledge, it helps patients better protect their health."
Regarding the current situation of disease treatment, Dr. Li said: "With the continuous development of medical technology, many blood diseases have changed from being 'untreatable diseases' in the past to chronic diseases that can be controlled and cured. The key lies in 'early detection, early diagnosis, standardized treatment, and regular monitoring'. The confidence of patients and their families is just as important as our doctors' medical skills." These words inspired the confidence of the patients and their families present, and were widely recognized.
Dr. Duan Linlin and Dr. Zhao Shuyi respectively started their talks with topics of aplastic anemia and immune thrombocytopenia. They elaborated on the diagnosis and treatment, daily management, and precautions for patients with hematological diseases. The content covered how to prevent infections, the observation and handling of bleeding, nutritional support, psychological adjustment, and traditional Chinese medicine care - all the practical issues that patients and their families are most concerned about.
During the event, the daughter of one of the patients shared her personal journey. Ms. Lu recounted a touching story to the patients and their families present, using her own three-year experience of accompanying the patient for medical treatment.
"When I first accompanied my father for a medical consultation, I asked outside where the Hematology Department was. Director Li Yulin simply said, 'Come in, it's inside.' From that moment, the miracle began. Director Li carefully examined my father's previous medical records. Despite my father's resistance and refusal to be hospitalized, he gently explained the purpose of the hospitalization, the examination contents, the length of stay, etc., eventually persuading my father to cooperate with the treatment. After the diagnosis, Director Li patiently explained the cause, progression, possible outcomes, treatment plan, and comforted my emotions to me. She wrote it all down on a piece of paper, which I still keep to this day. I don't know if it was Director Li's friendly face, gentle tone, or her firmness in her gentleness that made me have an inexplicable trust in her. The facts over the past three years proved that my instinct was correct. It was the natural transmission of her positive energy. During the hospitalization, we saw the doctors being professional and rigorous in their work, and having an amiable and patient attitude. The hospital also set up work processes such as patient follow-ups and soliciting suggestions. The numerous banners hanging in the department were just ways for patients to express their gratitude to the doctors, but they couldn't fully convey the true feelings of the patients towards the medical staff." Ms. Lu's sharing won thunderous applause from the audience, providing the patients with tremendous spiritual energy through the most genuine story.
During the final interactive Q&A session, patients and their families fully utilized the opportunity to have face-to-face communication with the experts, actively asking questions regarding their confusion during the treatment process, precautions for medication, arrangements for follow-up examinations during the recovery period, and daily adjustment methods. The hematological disease doctors' team listened attentively and provided detailed and comprehensive answers one by one, offering personalized guidance based on the individual conditions of the patients, effectively eliminating their concerns during the diagnosis and rehabilitation process.
This patient education exchange meeting concluded successfully in an orderly and warm atmosphere. The family members who participated in the event responded enthusiastically. Through such an activity, they not only gained practical knowledge about the disease, but also felt the humanistic care spirit of the entire medical staff of the Hematology Department of Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. Their determination to overcome the disease became even stronger.
In the future, the Hematology Department of Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital will continue to uphold the service philosophy of "putting patients at the center", regularly organizing activities with different themes for patient education, and continuously disseminating knowledge on disease recovery and boosting patients' confidence in recovery, thus becoming a solid support in patients' life journey.
