The Hematology Department of Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital has launched an educational campaign titled "International Myeloma Care Month" to raise awareness among patients.

Every March is the "International Multiple Myeloma Care Month". In order to better serve multiple myeloma patients, on March 28th, the Hematology Department of Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, in collaboration with the Acupuncture Department and the Neck, Shoulder, Back and Leg Pain Department, held a patient education campaign on multiple myeloma. They popularized the relevant knowledge of multiple myeloma and the unique traditional Chinese medicine treatments to the patients and their families, enhancing public awareness of multiple myeloma.

Multiple myeloma is more common in the elderly population and often accompanies symptoms such as bone pain, anemia, kidney function impairment, and hypercalcemia. Currently, the incidence of multiple myeloma has exceeded that of acute leukemia and has become the second most common hematological malignancy in China. The main clinical manifestations of multiple myeloma patients include anemia, bone pain, kidney damage, and hypercalcemia, but they are also often accompanied by fatigue, numbness in the limbs, and pain in the waist and legs, which seriously troubles the patients. The experts respectively introduced the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and physical therapy in treating the fatigue, numbness in the limbs, and bone pain of multiple myeloma patients. The Hematology Department of Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital is committed to applying traditional Chinese medicine-based therapies to improve patients' symptoms, alleviate their pain, prevent disease recurrence, and care for multiple myeloma patients.
Director Li Yuliang of the Hematology Department presided over this patient education activity, introducing the background of the Multiple Myeloma Care Month and the significance of holding this event. Deputy Director Liu Yanjie of the Neck, Shoulder, Back and Leg Pain Department, with the topic "Prevention and Treatment of Vertebral Fractures in Multiple Myeloma Patients", introduced minimally invasive interventional bone cement treatment for vertebral fractures and explained the prevention and precautions of osteoporosis. Department Chief Doctor Duan Linlin of the Hematology Department popularized the relevant knowledge of multiple myeloma from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine care. Department Chief Doctor Wang Yanzhi of the Acupuncture Department, with the topic "Using Needles as a Bridge, Restarting Sensation", explained the advantages of acupuncture in treating numbness in the limbs and other aspects of multiple myeloma, and conducted on-site teaching on common health care acupoints.
This event fully demonstrated the advantages of our hospital's multidisciplinary team collaboration. By integrating resources from the Hematology Department, Acupuncture Department, and Neck, Shoulder, Back and Leg Pain Department, we formulated personalized treatment plans for patients, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment. At the same time, relying on standardized diagnosis and treatment processes and a full-cycle follow-up management system, it not only significantly reduced adverse reactions related to this disease and treatment, improved the quality of life of patients, but also enabled patients to benefit for a long time.
