Good News | The project led by Director Zang Zhiwei of our hospital has won the First Prize for Science and Technology of the Chinese Acupuncture Society
Recently, the list of winning projects for the 10th China Acupuncture Society Science and Technology Award was announced. The project "Evaluation and Promotion of the Therapeutic Effect of Acupuncture on Chronic Prostatitis/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome" completed by Zang Zhiwei, the deputy director of the Neck, Shoulder, Back and Leg Pain Department of Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, in collaboration with experts from renowned domestic medical institutions such as Guang'anmen Hospital of Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, won the first prize of the China Acupuncture Society Science and Technology Award.


This study evaluated the therapeutic effect by using the NIH-CPSI (National Institutes of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index) and the IPSS (International Prostate Symptom Score) scales recommended by current clinical guidelines in the United States. It conducted a comprehensive, standardized and objective research and evaluation on the safety and effectiveness of acupuncture in improving the quality of life of patients with chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS), providing definite evidence for acupuncture treatment of CP/CPPS.
The research results showed that this therapy not only could alleviate the clinical symptoms such as frequent urination and urgent urination in patients, improve their quality of life, but also had the advantages of no toxic side effects and safety and effectiveness compared with drug treatment. It was widely recognized by patients. Up to now, the cumulative number of patients receiving this therapy has exceeded 1,200. This has further enhanced the acceptance of traditional Chinese acupuncture among patients and brought new opportunities for the academic level improvement of Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. It has clinical application promotion value.
