Medical education collaboration, jointly building a vision protection barrier! The Youth Myopia Prevention Conference for Medical Education Collaboration in Yantai City was successfully held.
On the afternoon of February 6th, the "Building a Vision Protection Barrier, Illuminating the Eyes of Teenagers" - A Medical-Education Collaborative Youth Myopia Prevention Seminar jointly organized by the Yantai Municipal Health Commission and the Yantai Municipal Education Bureau and hosted by the Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital was held at the Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. Experts from the medical and education fields, school representatives, and parents of students gathered together to jointly discuss how to deepen the medical-education collaboration and jointly safeguard the eye health of teenagers. The seminar was chaired by Han Feng, the Party Secretary and President of the Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.
Over the years, the Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital has always regarded the prevention of myopia among teenagers as an important mission. As a member unit of the Ophthalmology Committee of the Chinese Materia Medica Society and a municipal-level base for pediatric tuina prevention and control of children's and adolescents' myopia in Shandong Province, the hospital focuses on the three major links of "screening, prevention, and intervention", actively enters schools to carry out public welfare activities such as science popularization lectures and vision screenings, and adopts traditional Chinese medicine therapies such as acupuncture, tuina, and ear acupuncture bean pressing, forming an "early screening, early intervention, combined traditional Chinese and Western medicine" myopia prevention service system, achieving good clinical efficacy and social response. This seminar aims to further gather professional forces and promote the systematic and scientific development of myopia prevention work.

At the seminar venue, the "Zhao Yang Professor Youth Myopia Prevention and Control Studio" was officially inaugurated and established. This studio was jointly set up by renowned domestic ophthalmology experts, Professor Zhao Yang from Beijing Tongren Hospital, and Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. This marks an important step for Yantai in introducing high-end ophthalmic medical resources and improving the local level of myopia prevention and control.
After the inauguration ceremony, Professor Zhao Yang delivered a special lecture titled "The Development of Children's Myopia Prevention and Control Technology and the Transformation of Thinking". Professor Zhao Yang systematically reviewed the development history of myopia prevention and control technology and profoundly explained the necessity of the current shift in prevention thinking from "passive correction" to "active prevention" and from "single means" to "comprehensive system". He combined his established "4L Myopia Prevention and Control System" and rich clinical experience to present a cutting-edge and practical knowledge feast to the audience present, providing valuable ideas for the next step of myopia prevention and control work at Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.

In recent years, the problem of myopia among Chinese teenagers has become increasingly severe, and myopia prevention and control has become a major public health issue related to the country's future development and the physical and mental health of teenagers. The convening of this seminar is precisely a proactive measure taken by Yantai to address this challenge and deepen departmental collaboration. In May last year, Yantai successfully held related innovative seminars, as well as collective lesson preparation and video training sessions for the myopia prevention and control team, laying a solid foundation for this further cooperation.
Wang Dianke, the director of the Ophthalmology Department of Yantai Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, stated that the establishment of the "Zhao Yang Professor's Youth Myopia Prevention and Control Studio" will inject new vitality and cutting-edge perspectives into the hospital's myopia prevention and control efforts. The two parties will jointly explore new technologies and new paths for myopia prevention and control, promote the transformation of scientific research results into clinical applications, further enhance the hospital's influence in the field of myopia prevention and control for young people, and safeguard the visual health of the youth in Yantai.
The experts present unanimously agreed that myopia prevention and control for teenagers is a long-term and systematic project that requires the participation of medicine, education, families, and society. With "medical education collaboration" as the link, strengthening vision health management, promoting appropriate technologies, and popularizing scientific eye care knowledge are the necessary paths to build a barrier for myopia prevention and control and ensure that children have a bright future.
Looking to the future, Yantai City will continue to promote the deep integration of medicine and education, integrate high-quality resources, improve the prevention and treatment network, and strive to brighten the hearts of children in the port city, protect a clear "vision", and enable every child to embrace a beautiful future with bright eyes.
